Safety & SecurityIn our heightened times, Forsyth Christian School has taken a pro-active approach to the safety of our students, faculty and families. In this regard, it is our policy to cover safety measures with our teachers annually, evaluate and refine security plans, and test/exercise school crisis plans. FCS encourages school personnel to maintain a "heightened awareness" for suspicious activity and to report the same. Daily, our staff provides special attention to perimeter security and access control, while maintaining clearly defined perimeters for our families. We use designated parking areas especially for visitors and we register all staff and student vehicles. Additionally, supervision and monitoring of the school parking lot and outside areas is constant. Our custodial, maintenance, and grounds personnel are asked to provide assistance in the identifying and handling of suspicious packages and items found on campus, while routine inspections of the building and grounds by the FCS administration takes place, as well. Precautions as simple as making sure that classroom windows are secured at the end of the school day is a good example of minimizing potential danger to an FCS student. It is our policy to stress to our faculty the importance of adult supervision before, during, and after school, both inside school buildings and on campus, and in common areas such as hallways, stairwells, restrooms, cafeterias, and other high-traffic areas. The FCS staff maintains a heightened awareness during recess, physical education classes, drop-off and dismissal, and other outside activities. Although quick to welcome our FCS families, our faculty and staff are asked to immediately verify the identity of service personnel and vendors visiting the school. Policy is to not permit access and to report suspicious individuals who cannot be verified immediately to FCS administration. Further steps taken are the detailed and accurate records of service and delivery personnel including a log (signed in by school personnel) of the full names and organization name, as well as all other identification information. Additionally, prior to being offered employment, FCS faculty and staff are interviewed and evaluated by the administration and required to submit to both background and drug testing. FCS also maintains lockdown and evacuation procedures as necessary. It is our goal for our students, families and faculty to face potential safety issues not with fear, but with confidence, that all are prepared to overcome the crisis. |
